Janet P. Gross - President and CEO

Jan’s earliest memories are of helping in the family garden and exploring the woods and lakes of her native Ontario. The passion for environmental stewardship that grew from these childhood experiences has led her to explore other cultures, become an organic gardener in Mendocino and, in 1985, establish an award-winning landscape design, build and maintenance company in Marin County. As President and CEO of Heritage Landscapes, Jan is a leader in the landscape industry, serving as past president of the California Landscape Contractor’s Association and developing many technical training programs that have resulted in the conservation of natural resources. Jan’s mission is to protect and enhance the natural vitality of gardens and landscapes in all settings, and to share her proven approach with commercial and residential clients.

Heritage Landscapes holds a State of California Landscape Contractors License and is a Certified Bay Friendly Landscape Company and Marin County Green Business. The company is a member of the national landscape organization PLANET, the Association of Professional Landscape Designers, and numerous other professional organizations. Jan serves as a landscape industry representative on the county’s Citizen’s Advisory Committee of MCSTPPP, which protects water quality. Heritage Landscapes has been featured in Better Homes and Gardens, Sunset Magazine, Dream Pools and Spas and the San Francisco Chronicle Magazine.

Jan aligns her environmental stewardship values with her personal life, exploring new ways to grow her own organic food, raise chickens and create a healthy lifestyle with her family at her San Geronimo Valley homestead. Both personally and through Heritage Landscapes, she contributes generously to her community and donates landscape consulting and design services to local schools and non-profit organizations. Jan is also a recognized artist with works published in the books Spirit of Color and Spirit of Drawing.

Jan’s son and daughter both joined Heritage Landscapes full-time after working in the maintenance and construction divisions during the summer months while attending college. David and Almora are proud to carry the legacy of Heritage Landscapes into the next generation.
